EU Project SENTINELSPRINGS
SentinelSprings is a pioneering EU-funded project that positions springs as early warning sentinels to monitor and protect groundwater and its associated aquatic ecosystems under climate and human pressures. By combining cutting-edge monitoring, real-time IoT (Internet of Things) tools, historical records, and citizen science, the project delivers a missing international, standardised online spring hydrological and ecological database, a powerful tool for long-term ecosystem tracking and sustainable conservation of groundwater and its associated surface ecosystems. Through diverse living labs across Europe, SentinelSprings fosters inclusive conservation, empowers local communities, and informs science-based policy.
